The Unknown Land

Imagine Modern Family with a dose of Call My Agent office politics set in Paris just like Emily. Or what would happen if Rebecca in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend really did accidentally move where her ex-boyfriend lived.

Show Synopsis:

C’est La Vie introduces us to the Beaufort family who have just moved back to Paris after many years of living in America. While matriarch Kate struggles to transition back to full time work after years of being a mom, her husband struggles with his wife becoming the chief breadwinner while their daughters struggle with the culture shock. Complicating things for the family in the first season are  the surprise reveal of Kate’s ex-lover as their new neighbor, the unexpected arrival of Kate’s eldest son, hostile and incompetent new co-workers, and a house that brings more nuisance than nesting.

Show Format:

C’est La Vie is a single camera dramedy with the pacing and style of Call My Agent, only 23% funnier. A nice dose of travel porn will soothe cooped up viewers wanderlust. Each episode will focus on the struggles this American family has in adjusting to their new life in France, while also trying to cope with the daily disasters that develop in their “new” Parisian home - heavy on character and charm, light on functionality. Episodes will also include a dose of office politics at Kate’s workplace as she experiences some challenges in returning to the workplace after a long absence and is not exactly welcomed with open arms by her new colleagues. Every episode also features a nightmare that brings to life Kate’s worries and fears and offers a fun opportunity to play with genres and parody common tropes. The series will offer many opportunities for well-known international actors to make guest appearances, as well as numerous product placement opportunities - like translation apps, smart cars, etc.
